Grenada - Spice Mas

Grenada the "Island of Spice" consists of the island of Grenada itself plus six smaller islands which lie to the north of the main island. Some of the notable offshore islands include Carriacou the largest of the off-shore islands and another notable island is Petit Martinique. Grenada is located northwest of Trinidad and Tobago, northeast of Venezuela and southwest of one of our favorite islands Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Its capital is St. George's. Grenada was donned the “Spice Isle” due to its production of nutmeg and other spices and is well known for its Nutmeg Festival.

Grenada’s carnival extravaganza is called Spicemas. Carnival in Grenada has a vibrant soca and calypso atmosphere that attracts thousands of revelers each year. The land of Jab has the most exhilarating cultural showcases with traditional carnival costumes and J’ouvert bands which are still a very big part of their festivities. Other than traditional calypso and Jab-Jab bands there is more to see in Grenada. The island has sensational cuisines like decadent Oil-Down dish and wonderful nature tours.  From taking a stroll or a dip at well renown and beautiful Grand Anse Beach, to the soaking up nature at the majestic Tufton Hall Waterfalls or the Seven Sisters Waterfalls, parading through an iconic fort such as Fort Frederick or Fort George to recount the rich history of the island or if your even more of a nature enthusiast you can visit the Grand Etang Lake and most importantly the Grenada Marine Park that’s home to many reefs, small wrecks and of course the most talked about Underwater Sculpture Park done by Jason DeCaires Taylor in 2006.

Grenada is definitely another unspoilt jewel of the Caribbean and a must visit destination for any carnival fanatic. So, get those bags packed and let’s head to the ‘Spice Isle’ of the Caribbean and get an authentic culture vibe in the land of Jab.
